HATastic!

January 16th and 23rd
from 6-9 pm
In the Bridgwaters Lounge
At the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center
on IU campus
275 N Jordan Ave

HATastic is a free workshop to learn to knit or crochet a hat for chemotherapy patients in our community. All finished hats will be donated to the American Cancer Society and the Olcott Center.

Yarn and needles will be supplied for a $10 returnable donation or you can bring your own!  The $10 returnable donation is to insure the yarn and needles used for this workshop.  All supplies are donations and we are not making any profits from this workshop. Thanks to Brittany Needles for their generous donation!

Needle sizes for yarns vary depending on the yarn size.  Look at the label and purchase the size recommended.  We will help you with gauge and sizing at the workshop so only focus on the numbers next to the mini pictures of knitting needles or crochet hooks.

If you would like to bring your own yarn choose a size that is in the range of worsted (4) to super bulky (6).  The following is a list of suitable yarns for chemo hats:

Cotton blends
Superwash merino
Bamboo
Baby blends (However, be weary of what you use.  Some baby yarns we have seen are super itchy and we would never even use them on our own babies!)
Superfine nylon
Superfine acrylic

Basically, anything you can confidently judge that will NOT itch your forehead is a good choice.

What NOT to use:

Any type of wool other than superwash merino
Mohair
Alpaca
Large blends of acrylic (small percentages of acrylic is ok)

MLK Day: A Day ON not OFF

In a YARN Basket will be donating ALL hats made to our group!!! They will be donating 3 skeins of yarn to EVERY PROJECT!! Wow!

A Day ON not OFF: This Martin Luther King Day, January 17th, we will be hosting a "Knit/Crochet-In". We will donate up to 3 balls of yarn to the service project of your choice.  We hope you can join us for however long your schedule allows. Bring your needles, your positive energy and maybe some chocolate to share! We have the yarn...
